January Update

I'm laughing at myself right now.
This was meant to be a follow-up post for my goals back at the first of the month.
I plan to do one like this every month.
Hahahaha!! There goes that word again....
"Plan".

Someone once said,
"If you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans."

Well... I can honestly say, I get it now!

I PLANNED to walk every day.  No exceptions.  And I was doing great. Then it snowed.
I PLANNED to follow My Fitness Pal everyday.  Logging in calories.  Then it snowed.  And we ate like bears before hibernation!
I PLANNED to blog at least once each week.... Okay that has nothing to do with snow. It just didn't happen.

I could go on...  But I won't.

Truth is, it has nothing to do with changes in weather, but WHETHER or not I am determined to change.

Mama always said, "If you fall of your horse, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and climb right back on!"

So here goes...

GIDDY UP Y'ALL!!!

Happy New Year!

Happy Monday Morning, Y'all!
I am so excited about 2014, and looking forward to starting some NEW THINGS this year.
Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.

See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
    and streams in the wasteland.
(Isaiah 43:18-19)
Yesterday, Pastor Bill challenged us to set goals for the new year.  I have to admit, I wasn't going to make any.  I have had my fill of New Years Resolutions that never went anywhere, but his sermon stirred something in me.  I don't want to be a sluggard (see what I did there, PB??) ;-) so I wanted to set some goals... some long-term things to strive for during this new season of life.

We've all heard the old adage, "Plan your work, and work your plan."  For a long time I thought that's why I have had such a hard time being successful at achieving anything.  But yesterday, I was reminded of a very significant truth.

Making plans with God's input is wise.

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.
What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
(James 4: 14 - 15)

Commit your work to the Lord,
and your plans will be established.
(Proverbs 16:3)

Plans are good.  They keep us focused.  Having a goal keeps me motivated.  But leaving God out of my plans is foolish.  I must submit my life to Him, and surrender my plans to His will, if I have any kind of chance of success.  Not for personal success, mind you... but through His Providence to achieve His Purpose for my life.

That being said, here are my goals for 2014.
  • More personal time in prayer and reading/studying God's word. (The plan is to do this every morning after sending the kids off to school.)
  • More consistency in my worship, both corporately, and personally.
  • Better connection with my church family. (Find a Journey Group.)
  • Get plugged in to a ministry, using my gifts for God's glory.
  • Follow my plan on My Fitness Pal to get back to a healthy weight. (I am submitting this to Christ, knowing that putting him FIRST PLACE in my life, leads to "all these things" being added.)
  • Walk every day...  Every. Single. Day.  No excuses!
  • Get organized. (This has already begun. While I would love to snap my fingers and have it all done tomorrow, I realize... It is a process... slow and steady wins the race!)
  • Be a better steward of my time.  (Not procrastinate so badly with housework and other "chores".)
  • Blog more.  At least once per week. ;-)
  • Be an encourager.  (Send cards, write notes, focus on others, and come along beside them to cheer them on, and hold them up through the "stuff" of life.)
I believe that each one of these goals can be used for God's purposes in my life...  That the pursuit of these things will help me to better shine my light, and reflect His glory.

SHINE ON in 2014!!
